Dan is President of Esperanza International, Inc. From 2001 to 2004 Dan was President & CEO two VC companies in drug development, first Kadmus, Inc. of Irvine, CA and then Arizeke Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of San Diego, CA. From 1994 to 2001 he was founder, President and CEO of Calydon, Inc. of Sunnyvale, CA where he invented oncolytic viruses for the treatment of cancer. Dan raised $25M and sold Calydon to Cell Genesys (NASDAQ: CEGE) in August 2001.
Dan was also founder, President and CEO of Microgenics, a medical diagnostics company (1981-1989). Dan invented the CEDIAâ technology for high throughput, highly automated immunoassays of drugs and hormones in patient blood samples. Dan raised $15.6M in equity and $26M in R&D contracts and sold Microgenics to Boehringer Mannheim Corporation in 1992 for $80M.
Dan graduated from UC Berkeley, received a PhD. From the University of New Mexico and did postdoctoral work at Duke University.
