Letter from Seán Bray
March 18, 2009
We had a great week in December 2008 and we are signed up for our December week in 2009.
I know there is a lot of fear as a result of the media coverage. I’ve stated to our team and to others that if we, as Catholic institutions, choose when and how to be in relationship with marginalized communities then we’re not in solidarity, which is one of the principles of our Catholic Social Teachings. If we only choose to stand with the poor when it’s convenient then we are pimping out the poor for the use of our students and our communities to feel good about themselves and failing to live out our call to be a church of and for the poor.
I encourage groups to stay in relationship with Esperanza and the families in the communities through sending groups and keeping financial commitments.
Peace and thanks,
Seán Bray
