Statements from Members of a Volunteer Group

These statements come from the group that was here March 15-21, 2009. The group, the Catholic Center at The University of Southern California, had cancelled, however four students from their group decided to come on their own and wanted to share their experience. The first is the leader of the group and the second is a student studying abroad from France who came for the first time.

From Monica Dykas:
"This is my third year working with Esperanza and it was as great as the past years! Every day in the U.S., we hear bad news about Tijuana/Mexico, but I never once felt unsafe. We went out after work and had a great time. As always, working with the families is an unforgettable experience-learning about their lives and the Mexican culture, and sharing our stories and experiences with them. Our group had to cancel because of our university but four of us still came and I am so glad we did!"

From Marc Housieaux:
"I would have wanted that it be longer but even in one week it was an incredible and rich experience as you spend time with families. It is really well organized and never have I felt in danger. So do not hesitate, come and you will receive far more than what you gave."
